As a Narcotics Pharmacist, you will be responsible for the organization and management of all aspects of the controlled substance pharmacy program to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; provide direct oversight and accountability for the effective functioning of the inpatient pharmacy controlled substance inventory at Christiana and Wilmington hospitals; and assure adequate controlled substance inventory and distribution to meet patient needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the coordination of all activities related to controlled substance inventory management including procurement, receipt, accountability, and distribution.
- Ensure continual compliance with all standards, laws and regulations governing controlled substances.
- Initiate and implement quality assurance programming that enables ongoing compliance and rapid recognition of deviation from required performance.
- Establish and execute audit schedule; escalate findings of concern to departmental leadership.
- Coordinate and executes changes to assist the health system in addressing drug shortages.
- Provide direction and guidance to the controlled substance technicians of the department.
- Maintain knowledge of current and pending regulatory requirements and takes action to ensure compliance.
- Supervise the storage, dispensing and record keeping of controlled substances.
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of pharmacy laws and regulations and serves as a resource person regarding interpretation.
- Serves on the organization’s Controlled Substances Accountability Sub-committee of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee.
- Assure compliance with the Joint Commission Medication Management/CMS security standards/requirements for controlled substances.
- Establish and maintain productive relationships with vendors.
- Participate in the investigation and resolution of medication-related concerns, when needed.
- Participate in identifying and submitting event reports and providing follow-up assessment, as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- PharmD or B.S. in Pharmacy required
- At last three years of hospital pharmacy experience
- Current licensure (or eligible to reciprocate) in the State of Delaware
